Amber, Jacob, and baby Lennon - May 6th, 2008
Lennon's got a new trick: playing pat-a-cake (is it pat-a-cake or patty-cake? I dunno). Anyway, he claps his open hands together repeatedly when he's happy or excited. It's adorable. I love how babies will just suddenly pick up a new trick overnight. :)

We went to Jacob's mom's house for dinner last night. It was Cinco de Mayo, and Diana & Jesus prepared a huge Mexican feast - grilled chicken, pork, and castillos (steak), rice, beans, tortillas, tostadas, homemade salsa, pico de gallo, salsa verde, and red hot sauce. Everything was delicious, but I had to gulp down my food while attempting to feed Lennon some applesauce and soothing him when he inevitably got fussy. We'd had a long day before we went over there, and it was a half hour before his bedtime, so of course he was starting to get fussy. I left the table partway through dinner to go play on the ground with Lennon, and I had him smiling in no time. I felt weird though, because I *KNOW* that Diana thinks I spoil Lennon, and I'm sure my behavior was only reinforcing her opinions. She asked if he's always like this when we are trying to eat. I dodged her question, but the truth is that yes, he is usually like that. He wants my constant attention, and he's rarely content when I'm trying to do something that doesn't involve holding him or playing with him. I haven't gotten to savor a meal in the past 7 months. It can be frustrating at times, but I'm learning to just go with the flow. Lennon is a very needy baby...but he won't be a baby forever. I don't see anything wrong with giving him what he needs. It just bothers me that Diana sees that as "spoiling" him. She is not with Lennon on a daily basis so she doesn't really know what he is like. She's seen him a handful of times since he was born. She's a good grandma and I know she loves him, but she's not involved enough to make any valid judgements on our situation.

Moving on........

Jacob is a great father. He's been taking care of Lennon on Tuesdays and Thursdays while I work, and he's doing an excellent job. He even uses the cloth diapers with no complaints (I pre-stuff the aplix pockets and stack them up to make it as easy as possible). He also wears Lennon in the Ergo and holds him for all his naps. <3
